The Shoreline Knit Shawl follows the water’s edge through waves, sea foam, tide lines, and tide pools. A sweeping Feather and Fan border flows into a contrasting band of star stitches, followed by rhythmic eyelets, garter ridges, and smooth stockinette.

Worked flat from the wide scalloped edge upward, the shawl gradually tapers before the final edges are seamed to create a continuous wingspan. Familiar textures return near the top to tie the design together, while two needle sizes allow the Feather and Fan border to remain open and fluid.

Designed in two colors of Lion Brand Mako Cotton, this intermediate knit combines engaging stitch patterns with a generous shape that settles naturally over the shoulders. The pattern includes both written instructions and a chart for the Feather and Fan section, along with links to video tutorials.

Needles

• US 8 (5 mm), 32" or longer circular needle
• US 9 (5.5 mm), 32" or longer circular needle

The larger needle is used for the Feather and Fan border. The remainder of the shawl is worked on the smaller needle.

Gauge

• One 18-stitch Feather and Fan repeat measures approximately 4.25" on the larger needle before blocking
• 12 stitches and 20 rows = 4" in stockinette on the smaller needle after blocking
• 14 stitches = 4" in the eyelet pattern before blocking
• Approximately 5 star clusters (15 stitches) = 4" before blocking
