Yarn Review: Mandala Thick & Quick

Unpopular opinion. I've never been a big fan of the Mandala® yarns from Lion Brand. I don't hate them, but I don't really like them either. I want to. I want to participate in the cult obsession around these yarns. I just can't get there. And I've tried many times. The colors look so beautiful in the cakes. But all of them (OG Mandala, Mandala Baby, Mandala Thick & Quick, etc) have a somewhat scratchy feel to me. Not the most offensive yarn I've touched for sure, but also nothing I want to work with. Are you sensing a trend in my sentiment here? It's kinda just eh. But look at the colors! Ahhh... I'm so torn. For this review...

Feels Like A Dream Yarn Review

I’d like to start by saying this yarn lives up to its name. It’s soft and lofty and I could snuggle into a pile of it and happily take a nap. (Ah naps. Unrealistic toddler mom life dreams. Haha.) I was skeptical of the yarn when I ordered it. Online it looked like it could be very similar in texture to Lion Brand’s Wool-Ease Aire yarn, which I'll cover another time. However, the weight and fiber content is different. Wool-Ease Aire is a CYC6 super bulky blend of 74% Acrylic, 13% Wool, 13% Polyester while Feels Like A Dream is a CYC5 bulky 100% Nylon.      When the yarn arrived I was happy to find I was wrong. Homespun Yarn

About The Yarn CYC5 Bulky weight; 98% acrylic, 2% polyester; 185 yds (169m); 170 grams Homespun yarn is one of Lion Brand's classics. I remember it being around when I was learning how to crochet and that was an eternity ago. (Really somewhere around 1995.) I used it for a few blankets (including one I started for a boyfriend, gifted to him unfinished, we broke up, and I finished it and regifted to another boyfriend...) and maybe a scarf or two. There always seemed to be a skein sitting around the house and my whole family (even Dad) knew "Homespun." After those early projects I brushed it aside as a cheap novelty yarn.
